Great Britain have reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1986 after beating USA in San Diego, having been playing in Europe/Africa Zone Group II just three years ago.
They will face Italy who eased passed Argentina in Mar del Plata in the first round. The Italians have beaten Great Britain in ten of the last 11 meetings but they have not faced each other since 1984.

Next tie 4-6 April 2014 - Italy will host Great Britain in the World Group quarterfinals as the two sides meet for the first time since 1984. They have played each other a total of 15 times previously with Italy having won ten of the last 11 in the competition. Great Britain will go on the road again in the quarterfinal when they take on Italy. They have met 15 times previously with the Italian's taking the spoils in ten of the last 11 encounters including the most recent match in Telford, England in 1984.
Last tie 31 January-2 February 2014 - Italy saw off Argentina in Mar del Plata as Fabio Fognini helped his side recover from losing the first rubber to take victory 3-1. Having leveled the scores on the first day by beating Juan Monaco he then paired with Simone Bolelli to put them into the lead after the doubles and earned the third point with victory over Carlos Berlocq in the first reverse singles. Great Britain earned its place in the quarterfinals for the first time since 1986 by beating USA at Petco Park in San Diego. Andy Murray defeated Donald Young in the opener before James Ward scored an upset against Sam Querrey to double the lead. The Bryan brothers clawed a point back for the hosts but the British No. 1 made no mistakes in taking the crucial third point on the final day.
History - Italy was crowned Davis Cup champion in 1976, and has finished runner-up on six further occasions. Italy's Nicola Pietrangeli is the leading all-time Davis Cup player. He holds the record for playing the most rubbers (164), as well as the records for the most wins in both singles (78-32) and doubles (42-12). He also forms half of the most successful doubles partnership with Orlando Sirola (34-8).Great Britain has lifted the Davis Cup trophy on nine occasions. Its last title dates back to 1936 when Fred Perry and Bunny Austin were leading the team. Great Britain is the only nation that has participated in all the editions of the Davis Cup from 1900, although it competed under the name British Isles until 1912.
